Where to Spend Christmas in Mount Isa This Year

Where to Spend Christmas in Mount Isa This Year
on 15 November 2020 in Events & Entertainment

Christmas in Mount Isa stems from an amalgamation of traditions that go back to 19th century roots. Filled with quaint customs and traditional delicacies that have been garnered from the range of nationalities that make up the city, the Mount Isa Christmas tradition forms a unique affinity with the city.

And while the city may not have been aware of the 19th century German idea of Christmas decorations and candlelight features, Mount Isa has certainly embraced this tradition with persistence despite the searing summer weather.

The result?

A Christmas tree that is certainly big and an annual celebration at the Kruttschnitt Oval. Watch the children light up with glee as they await the presence of Santa by the big Christmas tree. And be spoiled with the delicacies of Christmas creations that stem from an influence of different nationalities leading to a buffet of culinary extravagance. A Christmas experience like this is one not to be forgotten, and better yet, there is much more Christmas spirit to come.

So buckle up your reindeer seatbelts and discover the best places to spend Christmas in Mount Isa this year.

Lake Moondarra

If you’re feeling like having a picturesque Christmas that provides for the whole family, head to Mount Isa’s beloved Lake Moondarra.

With plenty of green spaces for the kids to run around, barbecue pits to cook up a storm, and a beautiful lake for a dip or some fishing, a Christmas spent here would be nothing short of amazing for family and friends. Come by for an easy dinner with a stunning sunset view of the lake. You could even go so far as to put up some of your own decorations such as LED string lights and sacks full of presents to really set in the Christmas vibes.

And if you’re any good at fishing, you’ll be pleased to know that you could catch yourself some barramundi, perch, sleepy cod and saratoga to name a few. Plus, you could always just grill up your fresh catch for everyone with all the barbecue pits around.

Don’t forget to bring plenty of food, water, drinks, some shade umbrellas, games and eskies to keep the beers cold!
