Fun Ideas for the School Holidays

Fun Ideas for the School Holidays
on 15 June 2021 in Travel & Lifestyle

With school holidays coming in fast, it’s time to start making plans on ways to keep the kids busy and entertained in Mount Isa.

Experiment with different things that may fall out of the ordinary list of kids activity, and explore the best of what the Isa Hotel has to offer for your kids these upcoming school holidays.

Kids Zone at the Isa Hotel

We’re all about family fun, which is why the Kids Zone at the Isa Hotel will have your kids thrilled with amusement, while you get to sit back, relax, and enjoy the best of Isa Hotel hospitality.

Grab yourself a free kids activity pack with any kids meal ordered at the Rodeo Bar & Grill. Containing a colouring and puzzle book, colour pencils, stickers, and a toy, your kids will be kept busy while waiting for their meal.

The Isa Hotel has its very own kids playground located on the Isa Hotel Deck. Featuring a large multi-level kids playground with soft fall-safe flooring, watch as your kids stay entertained for hours. The playground is filled with slides, climbing frames, obstacles and tunnels that will have your little ones exploring for a challenge.

The kids playground is suitable for kids aged 4 to 12 years old, and is open from 6am to 9pm daily. Parental supervision is required, so be sure to grab a drink as you enjoy your time watching your kids burn their energy.

Coffee and Cake at the Isa Hotel

What child doesn’t like cake?

The Isa Hotel now stocks a range of delicious homemade cakes created by local baker Amy Mawn from Swirls and Pearls Cupcakes & Treats. From classics such as butter sponge and moist chocolate to decadent delights include red velvet and sticky date, there’s bound to be a cake to you and your child’s liking.

Enjoy a freshly poured barista coffee and your chosen slice of cake for only $9.90. For the kids, simply ask to swap the coffee out for a cup of hot cocoa instead. Be sure to call (07) 4749 8888 to make a booking.

Musical Bingo

Get your kid involved in some musical bingo, and watch their musical knowledge unravel. Musical bingo is also a great way to share your favourite tunes with your kids, while exposing them to new and classic tunes.

The Isa Hotel hosts Musical Bingo every Wednesday night at 7pm to 9pm, and is free to play with plenty of awesome prizes to be won. Be sure to rock up by 6.30pm when registration opens to not miss out on the action.

Live entertainment

Expose your child to the wonders of live music at the Rodeo Bar and Grill Deck at Isa Hotel every Friday from 7pm to midnight.

Showing your kid what it’s like to appreciate and enjoy live music can go a long way in character development, and can potentially fuel a passion to play an instrument and become a musical artist of their own.

Featuring an exclusive selection of Mount Isa’s best local acts, the lineup includes artists such as 2 Jam Deadly playing on 4 June and 2 July, The Buzz on 11 June, John Cullen playing on 18 June and 23 July, and Tim McLean on 25 June and 16 July.

A fun meal at the Rodeo Bar & Grill Steakhouse

Great school holidays always involve a spectacular family meal, and there’s no better place to have an amazing one than the Rodeo Bar & Grill Steakhouse at the Isa Hotel. The western-themed restaurant will have your kids mesmerised at the intriguing styles of the west and high country Australia.

Featuring decadent, premium steaks that will have you salivating for more, the open concept kitchen increases the excitement as you watch the professional chefs cook up your meal to perfection. With mouthwatering sides that seamlessly complement your mains, your appetite will feel like a bottomless pit.

The extensive menu goes beyond steaks, and includes delicious classics such as burgers, pizzas, pastas, schnitzels, seafood, and much more. The kids menu (12 and under) offers a great range of the best and most popular meals, including steak, lasagne, nuggets, fish, and chicken parmigiana, with a choice of two sides.

Mount Isa Family Fun Park

The name of this park says it all, it’s a family fun park full of playground features and equipment that will keep your kids extremely entertained. Highly rated on Google and TripAdvisor, the Mount Isa Family Fun Park is free to enter and contains plenty of shaded areas for a picnic along with free to use barbecue pits.

Let your little adventurers explore the various play areas, and head to the well-equipped water park to cool down from the heat. With a double flying fox, a liberty swing, a bike track, a sensory garden, a challenging senior kids playground, and a pirate ship at the junior kids playground, your kids will love it here.

A day at Lake Moondarra

Let the kids run wild outdoors at Lake Moondarra. Filled with wildlife and fun water experiences, rent a canoe, feed the ducks, spot some peacocks and galahs, go for a swim, or even throw in a line to catch a fish, the number of activities to be had at Lake Moondarra will seem countless.

Don’t forget to pack a picnic and or ingredients to whip up a barbecue lunch, and some games for the kids to play in the large grassy areas.
