Your Guide to Spending the School Holidays in Mount Isa

Your Guide to Spending the School Holidays in Mount Isa
on 01 December 2019 in General News

We’ve put together a guide to spending the school holidays (the right way) in Mount Isa. With plenty of options to choose from, school holiday planning will be easy with a guarantee of lots of fun and laughter to be shared.

Without further ado, here is a list of activities that shouldn’t be missed this school holiday.

Mount Isa Family Fun Park

Dubbed the largest playground in Queensland that accommodates all abilities, the Mount Isa Family Fun Park is called that for a reason. With a budget of $4.25 million going into design and build, the Family Fun Park is the perfect place to spend time with the kids this school holidays. Whether you’re looking to play, relax, or just have a great time together, there’s plenty to do at the park.

Not only is it completely free, it has:

  • Over 200 parking spaces

  • Free barbecue facilities for an awesome picnic

  • Many bike tracks for avid cycles

  • Massive grassy areas for kids to run around

  • Inspiring murals by local artists and schools

  • Award winning sculptures

  • Soft fall rubber ground cover in play areas

  • A junior play area with a pirate ship theme fenced with pool fencing for child safety

  • A senior play area with a wide range of fun installations and play equipment

  • A water park that had an interactive design with over 20 different installations utilising a recycled water system and sounds and lights

  • A sensory garden that interacts and stimulates all senses

  • A liberty swing that is also wheelchair accessible

  • A double flying fox, each of which is over 20 metres long

  • A permanent outdoor stage for performances

  • Toilet facilities that are state of the art, self cleaning, self locking and sensor based

  • A formal gazebo for get togethers and celebrations, such as hosting a parent and kids event over the school holidays

Visitors race this park highly on TripAdvisor, with many saying that their kids had a blast and spent hours upon end playing with the installations and at the water park.

The Mount Isa Family Fun Park is located on Church Street and operates daily from 9AM to 9.30PM except on Wednesdays where operating hours are restricted from 3PM to 9:30PM due to cleaning. The water feature closes at 8PM daily.

Mount Isa Go Kart Club

A not for profit organisation, the Mount Isa Go Kart Club pushes excitement to its limits. With an experience that will have your kid racing their fastest without a driver’s licence, go karting guarantees a fun way to spend the school holidays.

It’s a great way to introduce your child to learning safety rules and how to maneuver a car through a go karting experience. Your child’s reflexes will also improve due to the challenges laid out on the go kart track. From twisting bends to fast straight roads, watch as your child learns how to maneuver through the track with total control to avoid crashing.

Not only will they become a better driver by having more control over their vehicle, but they’ll also improve their ability to be more aware of their surroundings. At the go kart track, there are plenty of distractions and other drivers on the circuit which can be overwhelming. However, with practice makes perfect and the more your child familiarises themselves with go karting during peak periods such as school holidays, the better they will be at driving safely despite distractions being present.

Needless to say, go karting is a fun experience for children of all ages – and adults too! You can join in the fun and make the go karting experience a family fun day as well.
